Story Line: When Joan’s (Bell) son’s wedding planner unexpectedly quits, she must coordinate his Christmas Eve wedding with the help of Beau (Deklin), the bride’s uncle. As they work alongside each other they discover their fates and pasts are intertwined. My parents met on a blind date, and I never tire of hearing the story that, well, eventually resulted in me. The guy my mom was supposed to meet bailed because he wanted to hook up with someone else. That guy, now a retired dentist in St. Louis, sent my dad in his place, and he, having nothing better to do on a Friday night, obliged. Now I’m here relaying this story because I think the coincidences that bring two people together can be romantic and amusing to reflect on. Florist and occasional wedding planner Joan (Catherine Bell) sees it differently, however, when she meets someone from her past. She goes out of her way to keep that small part of her life hidden, a decision that creates all sorts of awkwardness and tension as she prepares for her son’s Christmas nuptials. The movie revolves around the silly notion that Joan will ruin son Liam’s (Luke Bilyk) memory of his deceased father if she reveals the events leading up to her and her husband’s meeting. We learn from flashbacks that teenage Joan (Joelle Farrow) spent six blissful hours at a Christmas festival with some nameless guy (Oscar Derkx), a student who eventually stood her up at a tree lighting ceremony. That no-show led her to Morgan, the man she would marry. As far as meet-cutes go, this one’s rather romantic, and if anything, I’d credit Nameless Guy for instigating my love story. Joan has never told Liam though, and when she discovers the man’s identity, she’s especially eager to keep a lid on this.
