Story Line: Reporter Kendra Adams (Contractor) searches for the love story behind an antique engagement ring with the inscription, “My Christmas Love 1948.”

A Hallmark Movies & Mysteries original movie. A reporter (Contractor) searches for the love story behind an antique engagement ring. With the help of the ring's owner's grandson (Alpay), they learn the legacy his grandparents left behind. I can’t pass up a David Alpay Christmas movie and be excited to see him back on Hallmark this year. He brings an intensity and wit that’s sometimes missing from the channel’s usual company of actors. Even when the movie isn’t great, you can still count on him to deliver a fine performance, which is the case in The Christmas Ring. 

It has enough going for it, including an actor of Indian descent in the lead role (a little late to the game, Hallmark), to make it worth watching once, but it’s hampered by a weak script and direction. The mystery of a Christmas ring is at the heart of the movie, and solving it keeps the story moving forward. Kendra (Nazneen Contractor) happens upon it while rummaging through antique shops. 

She wants to find the owner partly because of sentimental reasons – she’s been searching for her mother’s own ring and wishes someone would return it – but she also thinks that uncovering the love story behind the ring’s special inscription will provide her a much-needed career boost. Her current job at the Buzzfeed-like company Quizzer is slowly driving her bonkers. She wants to write long-form human interest stories but instead pumps out brainless quizzes all day, stuff like “Which elf would you be in the North Pole?” and “Which one of Santa’s reindeer are you?” (I’ve definitely taken these quizzes).
