Story Line: Rick tries to befriend Grundy, but discovers that the monster has killed a little girl and seeks vengeance. While Courtney and Pat try to stop him, Beth renews contact with Charles McNider in the Shadowlands and faces more of Eclipso's mind games. Eclipso attacks Beth, causing her to have frightful hallucinations in which she is informed she doesn't fit in—either as a heroine or in life. She gets visions of warped versions of her parents and feels alone. She does fight back, though, reasserting her strength and showing she deserves to be Dr. Mid-Nite. Rick, who has been bonding with Solomon Grundy, is misled by Eclipso into believing that Grundy has assaulted a little girl. Enraged, Rick viciously beats up Grundy—only to realize too late that it was an illusion, and he has ended up assaulting a human being. This leads to his arrest, further demoralizing the JSA. Yolanda is still tormented by the death of Brainwave. The power of Eclipso causes her to see terrifying visions of Brainwave and Henry King Jr., making her feel unfit to be Wildcat. The psychological agony drives her towards leaving the team. As Eclipso continues to divide and weaken the JSA, Courtney and Pat are unable to come up with a way to strike back. They know that Eclipso is becoming more powerful and drawing energy from their fear and negative feelings.
