Story Line: Hero tries to get Sam to take part in the fun, but he balks. Roxanne intrudes on their conversation and, after hearing that Sam used to work in theater, tells him that they all have to learn to stay alive now. The episode starts with Yorick, Agent 355, and Dr. Mann on their way to a safe lab on the West Coast where Dr. Mann intends to research Yorick's singular immunity. They are driving in rural regions, staying under the radar, since Agent 355 is constantly vigilant for attacks from both renegade military groups and other survivors. Yorick is experiencing the tremendous burden of being the sole remaining man. He is angered by the weight of being the symbol of humanity's chance for survival, given that he is mostly useless and unable to carry the burdens heaped upon him. Dr. Mann attempts to reassure him but her own bitter and aloof attitude doesn't do much. Yorick even asks at one time whether his survival had any real purpose or if it was just an accident in the universe. His inner turmoil is further complicated when he meets a group of women who are first hostile towards him, viewing his presence as a threat and not a miracle. Throughout the episode, Agent 355 has flashbacks of her experience with the Culper Ring, a clandestine government organization. The flashbacks show her intense training, psychological conditioning, and the emotional cost of her operations. Agent 355 is tormented by a past failure in which her actions resulted in unintended casualties. These flashbacks come to mind as she grapples with whether she can keep Yorick and Dr. Mann safe while also grappling with her own need for autonomy from the Culper Ring's control. In a moment of weakness, Agent 355 confides in Dr. Mann, revealing that saving Yorick is not just a mission — it's her quest for redemption. Back in Washington, Jennifer Brown (Yorick's mother and U.S. President) is under increasing political pressure from Regina Oliver, who continues to question her leadership. Regina insists that Jennifer is hiding things and botching the crisis. Jennifer must also contend with internal factionalism in her government. Scarcity and uncertainty over clear leadership are giving rise to cleavages within the remaining politicians and soldiers. Jennifer contemplates making the survival of Yorick public in a bid to retrieve control, but her counselors caution that it will bring about chaos and attempt to apprehend Yorick.
