Story Line: A group of hunters pays for an elite hunt on a desert island – hunting for a man. Everything goes as planned until the hunters are the prey. Former policeman James Malone (Bruce Willis) is serving a life sentence for a crime he did not commit. The film opens with Samuel, a self-proclaimed Apex Warrior and pharmaceutical trillionaire, shooting and killing a man. Samuel complains to a computer interface that he is becoming bored with the 'game' and asks the computer to find him a real challenge. Thomas Malone has spent years of his life in prison, serving a life without parole sentence for multiple crimes he had committed in the past. He longs to be reunited with his family, with whom he has no contact. Thomas is approached by the game master and offered the opportunity for his freedom. To win, Thomas must survive on a private island while being hunted by five wealthy participants, known as Hunters. Thomas accepts the offer, knowing it is his only chance to be reunited with his family and gain his freedom. Apex, filmed as Apex Predator but given a title change to avoid the taint of Apex Predators, is the third team of Bruce Willis, director Edward Drake, and writer Corey Large after Breach and Cosmic Sin. Despite that, I decided to watch it anyway. You can guess how well that ended. Sometime in the near future, ex-cop Thomas Malone (Bruce Willis, Out of Death, Survive the Game) is serving a life sentence. He’s offered his freedom by a representative of the Apex Corporation in return for appearing on their show. What does he have to do? Simple, he just has to survive being hunted by a group of wealthy sportsmen, Bishop (Nels Lennarson, Cold Pursuit, Countdown), Rainsford (Neal McDonough, Monsters of Man, Justified), Lyle (Lochlyn Munro, Riverdale, Scary Movie), Ecka (Trevor Gretzky, Spiral, Mile 22), Carrion (Corey Large, Poker Night, Broil), and Jeza (Megan Peta Hill, Open Water 3: Cage Dive).
