Story Line: Georgie, a dreamy 12-year-old girl, lives happily alone in her London flat, filling it with magic. Suddenly, her estranged father turns up and forces her to confront reality. Georgie has been living alone since her mother Vicky died, stealing bikes to pay for food and pretending to social services that she's living with her uncle. Only her best - and only - friend, Ali, knows the truth. Georgie believes that she is working her way through the stages of grief, but Ali, noting that she refuses to let her home change in any way from how her mother left it, says she isn't. Georgie comforts herself by watching a video she recorded on her phone of herself and Vicky playing together. Georgie's summer holiday plans are thrown into disarray when her estranged father, Jason, arrives unexpectedly. Jason forces his way into the home, threatening to reveal Georgie's secret to the social services when she tells him to get out. The facts of the matter are grim in “Scrapper.” A woman dies and leaves behind her 12-year-old daughter, Georgie (Lola Campbell). The father is not in the picture. Georgie doesn’t want to be put into the foster care system, so she sets up an elaborate lie system, telling the school and social services she is living with her uncle, Winston Churchill. She ropes in a convenience store clerk to pretend to be her uncle, making voice recordings to play back to any government official who calls. She makes money by stealing bikes and selling them for scraps. She stays in the house where she grew up, ensuring everything is as her mother left it. Georgie has no adult supervision. One day, out of the blue, a man crawls over the back fence and presents himself to her, in his tracksuit and peroxide-blonde hair, as her long-lost father, Jason (Harris Dickinson). Everything that 12-year-old Georgie (impressive newcomer Lola Campbell) knows about family, she learned from her single mother. And that includes the knack of filling the space left by an absent parent. While her mother was alive, she was both mum and dad to her daughter. Now that she has died, Georgie has taken on the responsibility of parenting herself. Resourcefully pulling the wool over the eyes of social services with an invented uncle as a guardian, Georgie continues to live alone in the home she shared with her mum. She has a best friend, Ali (Alin Uzun); an income (earned through bike theft); and an idiosyncratic, fiercely guarded process of grieving. There’s one thing she doesn’t need in her life: the arrival of her overgrown kid of a father, Jason (Harris Dickinson). Strangers, Georgie and Jason warily eye each other, unwitting mirror images with their clenched lips, hunched shoulders, and punchy truculence.
