Story Line: Aske is an average boy in seventh grade who just wants a peaceful life without being bothered by the obstacles he faces daily. He has a crush on a girl named Jessica, who is one grade above him. His nerdy best friend is Odysseus who is being bullied by a boy who attends a special ed class named Glenn. Aske has a strained relationship with his stepfather Jørn and stepbrother Sune. Aske's life turns upside down one day when he gets a ninja doll as a gift for his 13th birthday Uncle Stewart, who was on a vacation in Thailand earlier. He soon finds out that the ninja doll was possessed by a spirit belonging to a Japanese samurai named Taiko Nakamura who committed ritual suicide (seppuku) to save humanity from evil. 

The doll teams up with Aske to avenge the death of a Danish businessman named Phillip Eberfrø, who beat a poor boy to death in a sweatshop in Thailand. This puts Aske and his new friendship with this doll to the test, getting themselves ready for an adventure Aske has never been in before. In Thailand, Danish businessman Phillip Peppermint arrives to check on his new factory. After a boy named Quang accidentally uses his scarf to create a checkered ninja doll, Peppermint brutally beats him to death. At that moment, lightning strikes, causing the doll to be possessed by the spirit of a deceased ninja. As the Checkered Ninja ends up on a Danish cargo ship, he is picked up by Stewart Stardust, who gives the doll to his nephew Alex Stenstrom as a birthday present. At school, the Ninja comes alive and defends Alex's friend, Odysseus, from a bully named Glenn using Alex’s voice.

After school, Alex learns that the doll is alive after he insults Glenn. Glenn chases Alex throughout Albertslund and the doll quickly gets rid of him and the two quickly become friends. The Checkered Ninja promises to help Alex, in exchange for him unknowingly helping him get revenge against Eppermint using his lost credit card as a lie to return it to him. Alex realizes that Eppermint shares the same last name as his crush Jessica. He then learns from his mother that Jessica’s dad is also called Phillip, so the Ninja makes sure that Alex is invited to Jessica’s upcoming party on Saturday.
