Story Line: Former P.O.W. Jack Calgrove moves Heaven and Earth to be reunited with his children following the Civil War. After returning home, Jack finds out his wife has died and his children, presumed orphans, are heading deep into the West aboard a train crossing old enemy lines. Calgrove and another former soldier are joined by a troop of Native American sharpshooters and a freed slave, as they race to intercept the orphan train before all hope is lost.

Inspired by a true story, Hostile Territory is a rousing Western action-adventure. Former P.O.W. Jack Calgrove moves Heaven and Earth to be reunited with his children following the Civil War. After returning home, Jack finds out his wife has died and his children, presumed orphans, are heading deep into the West aboard a train crossing old enemy lines. Calgrove and another former soldier are joined by a troop of Native American sharpshooters and a freed slave, as they race to intercept the orphan train before all hope is lost. But Jack isn’t dead, he’s been rotting in a Confederate POW camp. 

Returning home along with fellow POW Desmond Richards (Craig Tate, Lycan, USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage) he finds out what has happened. Fearing retribution against Northerners, he and Desmond set out to catch up with the train. The first half-hour of Hostile Territory is interesting if a bit slow, and a long scene where Phillip talks about his family is an obvious, and annoying information dump. It is however nice to see a Western centered around a former Union officer rather than the more typical returning Confederate soldier. In fact, the Confederates we see in Hostile Territory are portrayed as a particularly scummy bunch. 

It’s a run-in with a group of them attempting to rape former slave Alice (Natalie Whittle, Orbital Redux, Wal-Bob’s) that sets the second act into motion. Former P.O.W. Jack Calgrove moves Heaven and Earth to be reunited with his children following the Civil War. After returning home, Jack discovers that his wife has tragically died and his children, presumed to be orphans, are heading deep into the West on a train crossing enemy lines, with the intent of being placed into new homes. Calgrove and another soldier team up with a troop of Native American sharpshooters and a freed slave as they try to stop the train.
