The Argument 2020
When a couple argues about a party and neither will back down, they decide to re-create the evening to determine who is right. Any detective interviewing a crowd of witnesses knows that every individual will have a different story about what they saw. Can there even be such a thing as "the truth" when it comes to complicated human interactions? This is the concept of "The Argument," directed by Robert Schwartzman, with a screenplay by Zac Stanford. What would happen if a group of people attempted a re-enactment of something they all experienced together? Who said what when? Whose memory is the correct one? There are some very funny bits here, but unfortunately the concept takes too long to get off the ground, leaving the first three-quarters of the movie floating in limbo, waiting for it to all make sense.
The Argument 2020
The thing that might bring Stanford’s broken-record comedy too close to home is also its defining feature: Jack (Dan Fogler) and Lisa (Emma Bell) have a squabble, and rather than letting it go, or discussing it like adults, they both “wish we could redo this whole night so that you could see how wrong you are!” And so they proceed to re-create the conditions of their dispute, repeating the night ad nauseam until catharsis arrives. No, “The Argument” isn’t another mystical time-loop movie à la “Groundhog Day” or “Palm Springs” — no one’s trapped by supernatural forces, infinitely resetting until they get things right — but it’s not far off.
The Argument 2020
A couple gets into an argument at their cocktail party that escalates until it brings an abrupt end to the festivities. They and their guests decide to re-create the entire night again and again to determine who was right.
