A woman seeking treatment for her stress, suddenly finds herself unable to filter herself when she speaks. Italian remake of the Chilean film, ‘Una Mujer Sin Filtro’.It is a new comedy directed by Guido Chiesa, starring Valentina Lodovini and Neri Marcorè. Produced by Colorado Film Production and Medusa Film, the film was released exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on June 18, 2020. The Italian film is the remake of the Mexican comedy “Una mujer sin filter”, directed by Luis Eduardo Reyes, an updated version of the Chilean “Sin Filter”.Rainbow CGI was responsible for the film’s Visual Effects. Despite the negative reception of this movie by Greek film critics, I went to its opening with a friend and when it finished she told me: "Bravo George a very good choice". 

Giulia (40 years old) has a hectic daily routine in a big and stressful city. She has to deal every day with her new and incompetent boss, her broke and freeloader partner, his teenage son, and a best friend who doesn’t listen to her and keeps dreaming of impossible love stories. Not to mention the unbearable scale, which scores every time the same weight although she’s always on a diet! On the verge of a nervous breakdown, Giulia decides to seek the advice of a bizarre life coach and try to get all these burdens off her chest. As soon as she steps out of the counselor’s office, a real revolution happens inside her, and all the humiliation and anger held in for too long starts exploding out and loud without control.

It is not a masterpiece but it portrays convincingly the all too familiar case of a professional woman entering early middle age who is exploited by her social environment in subtle and less subtle ways. She obligingly perseveres until a session with an alternative therapist, about the existence of whom she learned while zapping on TV late in the night, has a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde effect on her character and behavior. I will not disclose more but I have to point out that the hedonistic consumerism of post-modern culture is ably presented, as well as the cult of youthfulness and boundless self-expression. Most of the characters are likable despite or perhaps because of their foibles and faults. The bittersweet taste of life is displayed playfully with Italian finesse. Ignore the highfaluting critics and watch this movie.
