Tejas is a 2023 Indian Hindi-language action thriller film written and directed by Sarvesh Mewara and produced by Ronnie Screwvala.The film stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role, alongside Anshul Chauhan and Varun Mitra in supporting roles.The film was released on 27 October 2023 to mostly negative reviews from critics.Tejas emerged as one of Hindi cinema's biggest box-office disaster within its first two days of release,with most theatrical screenings being cancelled on its opening day.It was subsequently released on streaming platform ZEE5 on 5 January 2024.The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the first of India's defence forces to induct women into combat roles. The film Tejas is set in 2016 when this historic decision was rolled out. It revolves around a daring female fighter pilot.Kangana Ranaut who is playing the protagonist underwent an extensive training of four months to master the special combat techniques used in the forces. It is for the time that she will be playing a soldier on the silver screen."Very often, the sacrifices made by our brave women in uniform go unnoticed by the nation. Tejas is a film where I have the honour of playing the role of one such Air Force pilot who puts country before self. I hope we instil a sense of patriotism and pride in the youth of today with this movie. I'm looking forward to the journey with Sarvesh and Ronnie on this one," says Ranaut.

In this version, the insubordination of Wing Commander Tejas Gill (Kangana Ranaut), named after the light combat aircraft, in a rescue mission is entrusted with a more dangerous assignment to free an Indian spy from the clutches of some fanatic Islamists. Such films require a bunch of strong antagonists, but such is the makers’ devotion to the lead actor that Mewara has crafted a series of cardboards in Pakistan and Afghanistan that almost give a walkover to Kangana without even putting up a semblance of a fight. The only update is that the target this time is the upcoming Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Part of the footage might work as WhatsApp forwards in days of political fever, but for now, they don’t add up as an engaging film.In ‘Tejas’, Kangana Rananut plays airforce officer Tejas Gill, an ambitious girl who can’t wait to fly an aircraft solo in the academy and who is the first to take up the most difficult missions. The film begins by showing how Tejas follows her heart rather than instructions and how she saved one of her seniors, putting her own life and career at risk. As the film progresses, we get to learn more about her and what shaped her to become how she is. She is a woman of exemplary bravery and even successfully foils a terrorist attack.

The film's portrayal of the Indian Air Force is a blend of reverence and dramatic license. It presents the IAF in a glorified light, emphasising the courage and dedication of its pilots. While this patriotic fervour adds to the film's appeal, it occasionally borders on over-the-top jingoism.The Sarvesh Mewara-directorial, ‘Tejas’, released in theatres on October 27. The film has shown no growth since its release. On Thursday, November 2, 'Tejas' minted around Rs 40 lakh. Hence, the total box office collection in India now stands at Rs 5.50 crore. Meanwhile, 'Tejas' had an overall 8.43 per cent occupancy on November 2.Apart from being an ace pilot, Tejas has other skills – she detects important clues about the spy’s kidnapping that have bypassed the Indian intelligence agencies. The hard-working heroine isn’t just named after the Indian fighter aircraft that she flies. Even the second operation into enemy territory is titled “Operation Tejas”.
