Also starring Eddie Marsan, Rich Sommer, and Sebastian De Souza, Fair Play unravels the uncomfortable collision of empowerment and ego.Em hears a rumour that Luke is in running to get the position, and this fuels their passion further, but the duo spectacularly — in a riveting slow-burn — spirals off the rails when their head honcho Campell (an imperious Eddie Marsan) makes Emily the portfolio manager instead. Worse, he informs her that Luke is next on the chopping block. 

The next day, the two awaken on their apartment floor, where they landed after more lovemaking. It’s 4:30 a.m., and the two are in lockstep as they prepare for the day, making coffee, getting dressed in their perfectly fitting power suits (and Em’s six-inch heels), only parting ways as they head to the train, a tactic to hide their relationship—which is against company policy—from the rest of the office. They’re equals at the firm, ambitious analysts, hungry for a promotion. When one of the portfolio managers quits in a theatrical and physical rage that results in a call to security, they’re both eager to take his place. Em hears a rumor it will be Luke, but when the opposite comes true, their carefully calculated careers—and romance—slowly go off the rails.

Emily (Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor) and Luke’s (Alden Ehrenreich) love has all the hallmarks of something incipient and promising – they share an apartment, a bed, a lifestyle. But by dating each other, they are breaking company policy at the cutthroat Manhattan hedge fund where they both work. 

Their attraction thrives on secrecy – they barely acknowledge each other at the office, then have sex on the floor at home – as much as the other’s perceived shrewdness at navigating the type of workplace where boilerplate HR trainings occur in view of an employee beating a monitor with a golf club.Just a couple of days ago, a steamy (but secret) affair between the two had resulted in Luke proposing to Em at his brother’s wedding; their chemistry is off the charts — be it supporting each other’s careers or having wild sex — and it’s clear they are madly in love with each other. Both of them are financial analysts who work at a high-stakes hedge fund, equals in the present, but everything changes when one of their bosses gets fired in a dramatic display of how cut-throat their corporate jungle can be (fans of Mickey Down and Konrad Kay’s superb British drama Industry will enjoy this).
